‘If we carry a cross let us offer it to Jesus! We often see Lent as a time when sacrifices are made by depriving ourselves of coffee, alcohol, chocolate, cigarettes, television or anything else that we are too attached to.But we must renounce these things for the love of Jesus and Mary, and we must be careful not to do it for our personal glory.
We often look forward to the end of these forty days just to be able to start drinking, watching TV etc …, but this is not the right way to live Lent!
It is certain that Our Lady asks us for sacrifices, but she always asks for them, not only during Lent.In Lent, we must offer God all our desires, our crosses, our diseases and sufferings, so that we can walk with Jesus, walk with him towards Calvary.
We should take it to heart to help Him carry the Cross, since He carries the Cross for all of us, and we should ask Him: “Lord, how can I help you? What can I offer you? “.I am not saying that He is not able to carry His Cross, but when we join Him wholeheartedly, then it becomes a beautiful thing.I don’t turn to him only when I need him, but I walk with him when he needs me most, when he suffers for us.
Many times, when we have a cross, we could offer it to him, and instead we start praying like this: “Lord, please, take this cross from my shoulders, it’s heavy, I can’t carry it.Why did you give it to me and not someone else? “No!This is not how we should pray! Our Lady tells us that we should rather say: “Lord, I thank you for this cross, thank you for this great gift that you give me!”
“Very few people understand the great value of the cross and the great value of the gift of our crosses when we offer them to Jesus. We can learn so much through the gift of a cross! In this time of Lent we must understand from the bottom of our hearts how much Jesus loves us and begin to walk by His side with great love.We should try to be united with him in his passion. This is the sacrifice that He expects of us.We walk like this and when Easter Day comes with the Resurrection, we will not live the Resurrection from outside, but we will rise together with Jesus, because we will have become free internally, free from ourselves and from all our dependencies.Isn’t that a wonderful thing? We will be able to live His love and Resurrection within us!
Each cross has its reason for being.God never gives us a cross without a reason, a meaning, and He knows when he will take it away.In the moment of suffering, we thank Jesus for this gift and we also say to him: “If you have yet another gift to give me, here I am, I am ready. Now I ask you only to give me Your strength to have the courage to carry my cross and go on with You, Lord! “
I remember what the Gospa said to me about suffering: “If you knew the great value of suffering!”.It is truly a beautiful thing! And then, the rest depends entirely on us and on our openness of heart. It all depends on our “Yes” to Jesus. It takes a lifetime to learn this and move on.Every morning, when we wake up, we can start our day with God. Our Lady does not ask us to pray from morning to evening, but to put prayer first, to put God first and then carry out our work and move forward. resolutely in all things of our life, visiting the sick, etc.
When we do charity work without praying, this does not apply.Likewise, when we pray and do not act with charity, it does not apply either. These two things, prayer and charity, always go together. And so, day by day, we go one step further.»
(End of Vicka’s testimony)
Knowing how much Vicka has suffered and with what grace she carries out her ministry with the pilgrims who go to visit her in Medjugorje, these words of hers take on special meaning.Vicka truly lives the way of the cross with Jesus day by day.And she knows well the joy it brings. What excellent advice Vicka gave us for this Lent! His words reflect those of Sister Faustina: “Oh, if only the soul that suffers knew how much God loves her, he would die of joy and excess happiness! One day we will know the value of suffering, but then we will no longer be able to suffer. The present moment is ours! “(Diary, 963).
Dear Mother, in this Lent, we want to go on help us to say our YES to Jesus with love!
