ARMAGEDDON? Will This lead to the end times

The Dome of the Rock is tied to Armageddon and the End Times primarily because it occupies the specific real estate where many religious groups believe a Third Jewish Temple must be built before the world ends.

In religious and geopolitical circles, the site is often called a “prophetic powder keg” for several key reasons:

1. The Necessity of a Third Temple

In many interpretations of Christian and Jewish prophecy, the “End Times” cannot officially begin until a Third Temple is constructed in Jerusalem.

  • Jewish Perspective: Orthodox Jewish tradition holds that the Third Temple will be built by the Messiah (Moshiach) or will miraculously descend from heaven. Its restoration signifies the beginning of the Messianic Age.

  • Christian Perspective: Many Evangelicals believe the Third Temple must exist so that a figure known as the Antichrist can enter it and declare himself God—an event called the “Abomination of Desolation” (based on Daniel 9:27 and Matthew 24:15). This event is seen as the trigger for the final years of human history leading to the Battle of Armageddon.

2. The “Abomination of Desolation” Theory

Some historical-religious interpretations actually identify the Dome of the Rock itself as the “Abomination.”

  • Followers of this theory argue that the structure “desolates” the holy site because it prevents the Jewish people from offering sacrifices.

  • Because the Dome contains inscriptions that explicitly contradict core Christian and Jewish tenets (such as “God has no son”), some prophecy watchers view its very presence on the Temple Mount as a spiritual sign of the End Times.

3. The Geopolitical “Tripwire”

The physical location creates a “zero-sum” scenario that many believe will lead to a global conflict (Armageddon):

  • The Conflict: The Dome of the Rock is the third holiest site in Islam. For a Third Temple to be built, the Dome would likely have to be removed or significantly altered.

  • The Reaction: Most scholars agree that any attempt to dismantle the Dome would trigger an immediate, massive conflict involving the entire Islamic world. In prophecy-focused narratives, this is often seen as the catalyst for the “War of Gog and Magog” or the beginning of a final world war.

4. Modern Preparations

Groups like The Temple Institute in Jerusalem have already created the golden menorah, priestly garments, and other ritual items intended for use in a future Temple. To many believers, the fact that these items exist today—while the Dome of the Rock still stands—indicates that the world is on the brink of a prophetic “collision” that will usher in the end of the current age.
