Eucharistic Revival with Our Lady of Guadalupe
The dioceses of the United States began a three-year period of “Eucharistic revival” on June 19, 2022, the solemnity of Corpus Christi. The Eucharistic revival seeks to return and rekindle divine life in the Church and the world through the Eucharist. United States Catholics are encouraged to learn more about the Eucharist during this time, to pray more often and more fervently the Mass during these years and beyond, and to find inspiration to take Christ into their homes, workplaces, and culture. The bishops discerned and called for a grassroots movement called the National Eucharistic Revival Movement. This movement, from 2022 to 2025, is rekindling a living faith in the hearts of Catholics across America and will unleash a new missionary chapter at this pivotal moment in Church history.
The National Eucharistic Revival Movement is the joyful, expectant, grassroots response of the Church in the United States to the divine invitation to be united once again around the source and summit of our faith: the Eucharist. Through the Eucharist, God desires to heal, renew, and unify the Church and the world.
More than 50,000 Catholics gathered in the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, for the National Eucharistic Congress from July 17 to July 21, 2024.
The life -sized Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was displayed on the main stage and was venerated during the entire Congress together with a smaller image of our Lady of Guadalupe in the Spanish Chapel for all of the Spanish Masses.
The days of Eucharistic worship, holy hours, pure joy, and fellowship that were experienced in Indianapolis should be our daily experience, not a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Jesus wants to be in our daily lives and it is our responsibility to be the missionaries that bring Him to others.
The Congress named Our Lady of Guadalupe as the Patroness of Eucharistic Mission because, as they wrote, “Our Lady of Guadalupe hastened to Elizabeth, bearing Jesus within her. She adores her Son’s Body and Blood at the Cross. She was present as the Spirit set the Apostles on fire with missionary love. She came to the Americas and remains with us both at Guadalupe and in our daily lives.”
The official National Eucharistic Revival Prayer ended with these words: Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of the Eucharist, Pray for us.
Catherine Grinn, the Coordinator for Visitations on the Journey of the Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, attended the Congress. She said, “I was humbled, blessed, and honored to be part of the historical Eucharistic Congress where Jesus was truly among us and His beloved Mother stood next to Him in the Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This beautiful Image of Our Lady was destined to be there and Our Lady made it clear to us that the next stop on her Journey was in Indianapolis with her Son!
“The energy in Lucas Oil Stadium every day was amazing! You could feel the Holy Spirit moving through 50,000 people and I could easily imagine, as I gazed upon Our Lady of Guadalupe on the stage, the love and joy that she must have felt seeing so many people excited about her Son! Our Lady of Guadalupe came to us in 1531 to bring love and conversions, and in Indianapolis that is what she saw again!
“Throughout the Congress, I was contacted by Local Guardians of the Image with whom I had worked with planning visitations in the past. They were so excited to see the Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe on the main stage of the Congress. I was blessed to meet a few of our guardians in person as we excitedly shared the beauty of the image being part of such a historical event.”
Mother Adela Galindo, spoke at the Congress. She said that we are all called to be Marian Missionaries of the Eucharist. She invited us to join Mary in prayer and missionary work as she pointed to the Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe on stage and said, “She is right here, listen to her!”
Bishop Andrew Cozzens, head of the diocese of Crookston, Minnesota, explained, “Part of the goal of the National Eucharistic revival is to help the Church make that conversion from maintenance to mission. That is, empowering people to reach out beyond the borders of the parish to knock on doors or invite neighbors to come experience Jesus in the Eucharist in His love for them in the Mass.”
Bishop Cozzens said, “We want to see a movement of Catholics across this country who are healed, converted, formed, and set on fire to bring the Eucharistic love of our Lord out to the world. Our hope for this Eucharistic revival is to affect the Church at every level.”
In response to Bishop Cozzens plea, let us join together in praying for Eucharistic revival and open our hearts to the renewal that God desires.
