HANG A ROSARY AROUND THE REAR-VIEW MIRROR? PRIEST REVEALS IF IT HELPS PROTECT

BY Father Al Baca

The rosary is one of many sacraments in the Church, and everything that the Church blesses is sacramental to arouse good thoughts and increase devotion to God.

Therefore, the rosary is not an ornament but a real tool that elevates piety and virtue in believers. “The more we use the sacramentals of the Church, the more we grow in friendship with God and move away from sin.

So what about the rearview mirror? When I was assigned to St. Joseph Church in Santa Ana, I remember one gang member who was known by everyone in the neighborhood to be very violent. He wore a rosary around his neck.

I asked him if he didn’t think there was a contradiction between what he was wearing and how he was living. His answer was simple and direct: “The virgin will protect me from murder.”

I replied that, instead, wearing a rosary while engaged in so much violence and human destruction was offensive to the Virgin Mary, and surely She would find no justification for his crime.

Thus even sacred things can be misused and become superstitions. When I wear or use a sacramental like a rosary or a scapular, it should mean to the world that I am a believer.

The sacramental talks about what I hold in my heart. With the right intention, a rosary hanging from a rearview mirror can indeed provide spiritual protection, but its real purpose is to mark me as a believer in Christ,” replied Father Al Baca.

In other words, if you wear a rosary on your rearview mirror, try to act like a believer in the full sense of the word.”

More about Sacrementals

There is no official teaching from the Catholic Church on whether or not it is helpful to put a rosary on your rear view mirror. However, some Catholics believe that it is a way to show their devotion to the Virgin Mary and to ask for her protection while driving. Others believe that it is a distraction and that it should not be done.

There is no biblical evidence to suggest that putting a rosary on your rear view mirror is either helpful or harmful. However, there are many stories of people who have experienced miracles after praying the rosary while driving.

Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to put a rosary on your rear view mirror is a personal one. There is no right or wrong answer. If you feel comfortable doing it and you believe that it is helpful, then there is no reason not to do it. However, if you are concerned about it being a distraction or if you simply do not feel comfortable doing it, then there is no need to do it either.

Here are some things to consider when making your decision:

  • Distraction: If you find that the rosary is a distraction while you are driving, then you should not put it on your rear view mirror. It is important to be focused on the road when you are driving.
  • Personal preference: If you do not feel comfortable putting a rosary on your rear view mirror, then you should not do it. It is important to respect your personal beliefs and preferences.
  • Devotion to the Virgin Mary: If you are a devout Catholic and you believe that putting a rosary on your rear view mirror is a way to show your devotion to the Virgin Mary and to ask for her protection, then there is no reason not to do it.

Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to put a rosary on your rear view mirror is a personal one. There is no right or wrong answer. Do what makes you feel comfortable and what you believe is best.sharemore_vert
