On October 22, 2005, Father Robert Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV, attended Game 1 of the World Series featuring the Chicago White Sox versus the Houston Astros. The White Sox secured a victory, marking their first World Series win since 1959.

A video capturing then-Father Prevost at the game, held at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois, has resurfaced multiple times over the past year. Most recently, it gained traction this month after being shared by the Sox On 35th X account.

In a May 2025 WGN interview clip shared by the Chicago White Sox, John Prevost, Pope Leo XIV’s brother, affirmed the Pope’s lifelong allegiance to the White Sox. “He was never, ever a Cubs fan, so I don’t know where that came from.

He was always a Sox fan,” John stated, noting their mother supported the Cubs and their father cheered for the Cardinals.
