The Virgin Mary in Ukraine

In 2001, St. John Paul II visited Ukraine. In his farewell address to the Ukrainian people, he said,

“Thank you, Ukraine, who defended Europe in your untiring and heroic struggle against invaders….  It has been my long-standing wish to express my admiration and appreciation for the heroic witness that you have borne during the long winter of persecution in the past century…

“My hope is that Ukraine will be able fully to become a part of the Europe which will take in the entire continent from the Atlantic to the Urals….

“Christians know that they are by right an integral part of the Ukrainian nation. They are so by virtue of a thousand-year history, which began with the baptism of Volodymyr and Kievan Rus’ in 988 in the waters of the Dnieper river; but they are especially so today, because of the baptism of blood which they received in the course of the tremendous persecutions of the 20th century: in those terrible years countless were the witnesses to the faith, not only Catholics but also Orthodox and Reformed Christians, who underwent deprivations of all kinds for love of Christ, in many cases even to the sacrifice of their lives.”.  (St. Pope John Paul II Departure Ceremony Address Wednesday June 27, 2001).

On December 16, 1936, St. Faustina, the recipient of the Divine Mercy Devotion, received a message from Jesus regarding Russia. He told her, “I cannot suffer that country any longer. Do not tie my hands, my daughter.” St. Faustina understood that if it had not been for the prayers of souls that are pleasing to God, that whole nation [Russia] would have already been reduced to nothing. “Oh, how I suffer for that nation which has banished God from its borders!” (Diary of St. Faustina Kowalska, 818).

Why did Jesus say to St. Faustina in 1936, “Oh, how I suffer for that nation [Russia] which has banished God from its borders.”?

In 1924, Russia liquidated ten million kulaks (independent Russian farmers who opposed collectivization) by forced collectivization.

In 1933, Russia confiscated and hoarded the Ukrainian grain harvest. It was a true genocide that resulted in the deaths by starvation of approximately 8 million Ukrainians.

In 1934, the Great Purge of Russia began and those suspected of being threats to the state were purged. It lasted until 1938 and resulted in the deaths of approximately 1 million human beings. There were also approximately 2 million who died or were killed in the gulags, the slave labor camps.

In the 1940s, under the atheistic Soviet communist dictatorship regime in Ukraine, the four-million-member Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church was outlawed. Its bishops were arrested and either exiled or died in prison. Almost 4,000 churches were closed and countless Catholic laypeople were imprisoned, exiled, or sent to the gulags.

The killings continued as Russia spread Communism throughout the world, as the Blessed Virgin Mary had prophesied at Fatima, causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent people. On February 4, 1989, the New York Times reported that the total Russian victims up to that date totaled about 20 million people.

Since then, Russia has committed the international crime of aggression against Georgia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Crimea, and now, the rest of Ukraine.

Russian President, Vladimir Putin has boasted that he has a Satan 2 rocket that can deliver nuclear warheads with a 6000-mile range that could annihilate Ireland, England, Spain, France, Germany, Poland, and Ukraine.

Cardinal Ratzinger, later Pope Benedict XVI, said, “the threat of judgment looms over the world and that the prospect that it might be reduced to ashes by a sea of fire no longer seems pure fantasy because man himself, with his inventions, has forged the flaming sword.”

So, we must practice penance, and pray for the conversion of Russia to prevent nuclear war and to bring peace.

The Virgin Mary Appeared in Ukraine

On April 26, 1987, the Virgin Mary appeared in Hrushiv, in western Ukraine. Her alleged apparitions were witnessed by tens of thousands as Mary appeared and floated above the church. It was exactly one year to the day after the Russians’ nuclear accident in the Ukrainian city of Chernobyl.

Ukrainian mystic Josyp Terelya, was a friend of mine.  We shared spiritual directors with Bishop Roman Danylak, a Ukrainian Catholic bishop in Toronto, Ontario.

Josyp went to Hrushiv and said that Mary told him, “In order to save Russia and the whole world from godless hell, you must convert Russia to Christ the King. The conversion of Russia will save Christian culture in the West and will be a push for Christianity throughout the world. But the Kingdom of Christ the King shall establish itself to the reign of the Mother of God.”

We should pray the Chaplet of Unity in honor of Jesus, King of All Nations, to help to bring the conversion of Russia. The Novena can be found at this link: https://jkmi.com/jesus-king-of-all-nations/the-prayers/.

Watch out for Russia

Later, in the early 1990s, Josyp warned a group of people in the state of Connecticut to “watch out for Russia” and specifically for “a man named Vladimir.” “He is very evil,” Terelya reportedly said, “and he is going to start a conflict.”

Russia Will March Upon all the Nations of Europe and Raise her flag Over the Dome of Saint Peter’s

In message number 3,396 from Our Lady of Peace, Anguera, Bahia, Brazil on November 6, 2010, she allegedly prophesied that “The cross will be heavy for the people of the Ukraine. The pain will be great for my poor children.”

In Message number 3749 of, December 13, 2012, she said, “Bend your knees in prayer for those who are in Donetsk, [a city in eastern Ukraine].  Death will come and the pain will be great for my poor children.”

Our Lady allegedly prophesied, “Russia will march upon all the nations of Europe and raise her flag over the Dome of Saint Peter’s.” (Blessed Elena Aiello Mystic, Stigmatic, Victim Soul, Prophet and Foundress of the Minim Tertiaries of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ who was declared Blessed on September 14, 2011).

On April 6, 2022, Pope Francis held up a Ukrainian flag at his General Audience. He said that it was brought to him from the “martyred city” of Bucha, Ukraine, as a memorial of what he called, “the “horrific cruelties” against unarmed women and children in Bucha. He said that the blood of innocent civilians “cries out to heaven” for an end to the atrocities of war. “Recent news about the war in Ukraine, instead of bringing relief and hope, attest to new atrocities, such as the Bucha massacre, increasingly horrific cruelties carried out even against unarmed civilians, women and children. “They are victims whose innocent blood cries out to heaven and implores an end to this war. Let us silence the weapons, let us stop sowing death and destruction.”

Let’s not forget the people of Ukraine.”

Ukraine Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba wrote, “The Bucha massacre was deliberate. Russians aim to eliminate as many Ukrainians as they can.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy detailed the war’s alleged atrocities in a speech to the U.N. Security Council after visiting Bucha. He said that Russian forces “killed entire families, adults and children, and they tried to burn the bodies. Civilians were crushed by tanks while sitting in their cars in the middle of the road, just for their pleasure. They cut limbs, slashed their throats, women were raped and killed in front of their children.”

Rebekah Koffler, a former Defense Intelligence Agency officer, said, “It is absolutely not an accident that they are fighting this way. This is 100% intentional. It’s not a lack of military discipline.”

On March 25, 2022, Pope Francis consecrated Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This act took place during a Penitential Celebration in St. Peter’s Basilica.

He said, “The Act of Consecration is meant to consecrate the Church and all the whole of humanity, especially Russia and Ukraine, to Mary’s Immaculate Heart”.

“This is no magic formula but a spiritual act. It is an act of complete trust on the part of children who, amid the tribulation of this cruel and senseless war that threatens our world, turn to their Mother, reposing all their fears and pain in her heart and abandoning themselves to her.”

Here Is a Call to Action

Let us be mindful of the Passion of Ukraine and pray for its end! Let us turn to Our Lady, and, as she requested at Fatima, let us pledge to pray the daily Rosary, as best we are able, for the intentions of the conversion of Russia, and for peace and freedom in Ukraine, Europe and the world.

And let us also pledge to make our best efforts to practice the First Saturday devotion that Our Lady also requested at Fatima.
