As of this morning, the drums of war have reached a deafening crescendo. In a chilling broadcast from Tehran, Iranian officials declared that the world has entered a “major world war,” a sentiment echoed by the smoke rising from the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, across the globe, the lines of conflict have blurred: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is currently traversing the Middle East, reportedly sharing advanced military expertise—honed against Russia—with Gulf allies facing Iranian drone swarms.

The stakes reached a breaking point Sunday when U.S. President Donald Trump issued a fresh ultimatum to Tehran, threatening “obliteration” of Iran’s critical infrastructure, including oil wells and electric plants, if a peace deal is not reached “shortly.”

For the Catholic faithful, these are not merely geopolitical maneuvers. They are the potential tremors of a spiritual earthquake long foretold on a windswept hill in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The Medjugorje Connection: A World on the Brink

Since 1981, the reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary, known as Gospa, at Medjugorje have centered on a singular, urgent plea: “Peace, peace, peace! Be reconciled!” But beneath this call to prayer lies a stern warning contained within “Ten Secrets” entrusted to six visionaries.

As the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran enters its second month and Russia’s campaign in Ukraine continues to bleed into the Middle East, the prophetic timeline of Medjugorje feels more relevant than ever.

• The Three Warnings: It is widely believed among Medjugorje scholars that the first three secrets serve as warnings—tangible, regional events that will act as a “wake-up call” for a world that has forgotten God.

   

• The Permanent Sign: The third secret involves a permanent, indestructible sign on Apparition Hill, meant to prove the authenticity of the messages before it is too late.

   

• The Chastisements: Secrets four through ten are often described as “chastisements” for the sins of the world. Visionary Mirjana Soldo has famously wept when viewing the contents of the ninth and tenth secrets, which are said to be grave.

   

“The tenth secret is grave and cannot be reduced,” Mirjana once stated. “However, Our Lady has said that through prayer and fasting, even wars can be stopped, and the severity of these secrets can be lessened.”

 

A Global Convergence: Russia, Iran, and the Middle East

The current alignment of powers—Russia and Iran forming a “drone-axis” while the West threatens total destruction—mirrors the “hatred and unrest” that Medjugorje proponents say Satan uses to “suffocate the soul.”

The Role of the Virgin Mary: The Last Hope

In Catholic eschatology, Mary is often seen as the “Ark of the New Covenant” and the “Woman Clothed with the Sun” from the Book of Revelation, who battles the dragon. At Medjugorje, she has identified herself as the Queen of Peace, warning that the world is on a path to self-destruction without a return to her Son, Jesus Christ.

Pope Leo XIV, in his Palm Sunday homily yesterday at the Vatican, rejected the use of religion to justify this “atrocious conflict.” Yet, for those following the Medjugorje messages, the current geopolitical “suffocation” is exactly what the Gospa predicted when she said: “Satan wants to suffocate man and his soul by his contagious wind of hatred and unrest.”

Is Time Running Out?

The mechanism for the secrets is already in place. Mirjana has chosen a priest, Father Petar Ljubičić, to reveal each secret to the world three days before they occur. As Father Petar approaches his 80s, many believe the “time of the secrets” is imminent.

Whether the current threats of obliteration and the expansion of war are the triggers for the first secret remains to be seen. However, the message from the Queen of Peace remains unchanged: “Pray, pray, pray.” In a world where “obliteration” is now a casual threat on social media, that ancient call to the Rosary may be the only shield left.
