Monday 16th April 2018 Today’s Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 6:22-29.
Monday of the Third week of Easter
Work hard not for the food that does not last, but for the food that remains for eternal life.
The next day, the crowd, left on the other side of the sea, saw that there was only one boat and that Jesus had not gone up with his disciples on the boat, but his disciples had left on their own. More boats had come from Tiberìade, near the place where they had eaten bread, after the Lord had given thanks. When the crowd saw that Jesus was no longer there and not even his disciples, he got into the boats and headed towards Capernaum in search of Jesus. They found him across the sea and said to him, “Rabbi, when did you come here? ». Jesus replied to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek me not because you have seen signs, but because you have eaten of those loaves and have been satisfied. Do not work for food that does not last, but for food that remains for eternal life and that the Son of Man will give you. Because on him the Father, God, has put his seal “. So they said to him, “What must we do to do the works of God?” Jesus answered them: “This is the work of God: believe in him whom he has sent.”
Every man is called to do the works of God. Responding to every man in the person of the Jews, Jesus says that only one is the work of God: “This is the work of God: that you believe in the one he sent” . He who has sent is one only: Christ Jesus.
.
He is the only servant in whom God has pleased, is pleased, will be pleased. Even in eternity the Lord will be pleased only by his servant and those who will form with him one life, one body, one single thing.
Here is my servant whom I support, my chosen one whom I am pleased with. I have placed my spirit on him; he will bring the right to the nations. He will neither cry nor raise his tone, he will not make his voice heard in the square, he will not break a cracked reed, he will not extinguish a wick with a dull flame; he will proclaim the right with truth. He will not fail and he will not break down until he has established the right on earth, and the islands await his teaching. Thus says the Lord God, who creates the heavens and unfolds them, extends the earth with what is born there, gives breath to the people who live there and the breath to those who walk on it: “I, the Lord, I have you called for justice and I took you by the hand; I have formed you and I have established you as a covenant of the people and light of the nations, so that you open your eyes to the blind and bring prisoners out of prison, from imprisonment those who live in darkness. I am the Lord: this is my name; I will not yield my glory to others, nor my honor to idols (Is 42: 1-8).
Moses was called to wrest his people from the iron crucible that was Egypt. The Servant of the Lord is called and sent to make every man his people. He will also have to go to distant islands. No land will have to ignore its name. How God works a theological conversion in his mystery of salvation: from a people to all peoples. So the Jews too must make a theological conversion: from a people that comes out of other peoples, it must be a people that aggregates to itself, not by force of arms, but with the power of preaching, made by the Servant of the Lord all peoples of the earth. This must be his powerful theological conversion.
In order to make this conversion, he will have to abandon Moses, his faith, his traditions, his statutes of people closed to other peoples, withdrawn from other peoples, and move to faith in Christ Jesus. He will have to believe that now the form, the modality of being , the structure of his action is only Christ Jesus and is only in him. He will have to go from the Old Testament to the New, from the Old Covenant to the New, from the old structures to the new ones. He will have to abandon Moses in everything and start a new path towards his complete liberation from himself. He will have to cross the sea of his thoughts, live a desert of preparation for the new, enter the new Promised Land that is Christ Jesus, attend the New Temple that is He, listen to the New Law which is his Word. The Jews are called to a radical conversion.
This is the work of God: that you believe in the one he has sent. When? Always. Where is it? Everywhere. Jesus is the perennial Word of God. When He speaks, wherever He should speak, whatever He should ask us, we must believe in Him. This theological conversion is urgent to be done every day. We must move from Christians closed in ourselves to Christians always open to Christ the Lord.
Virgin Mary, Mother of the Redemption, Angels, Saints, teach us this conversion.
