Medjugorje: Vatican to Issue Verdict on Apparitions on Thursday September 19, 2024
The Vatican is set to announce its official stance on the alleged Marian apparitions in Medjugorje on Thursday, September 19th.
A press conference will be held at 11:30 AM in the Holy See Press Office to discuss the “spiritual experience of Medjugorje.” Speakers will include Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, Monsignor Armando Matteo, Secretary for the Doctrinal Section of the same Dicastery, and Andrea Tornielli, Editorial Director of the Dicastery for Communication.
Although no additional details about the event have been released, the press conference is being held within the framework of the new “Norms for Proceeding in the Discernment of Alleged Supernatural Phenomena,” published in May by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. Since then, the Holy See has issued rulings on various alleged Marian apparitions and devotions.
The alleged apparitions began in 1981, when two young girls reported seeing a “lady” standing on a small cloud near a hill in the Bosnian town. Since then, Medjugorje has become a popular pilgrimage site for countless Catholics.
