PENTECOST SUNDAY
Dear friends, today the Church celebrates the day of its birth, the moment in which the Holy Spirit descends upon the Apostles, gathered in the Cenacle with Mary, with the roar of wind and fire, beginning its journey in the sea troubled over time until fulfillment in eternity.
The Spirit is the third person of the Holy Trinity, it is the love of the Father and the Son, the gift of Redemption which descended upon the Church on the day of Pentecost, to enlighten and strengthen it in the fulfillment of its mission.
It is the Spirit of truth and fortitude that transforms the apostles, so much so as to make them unrecognizable to their adversaries due to the wisdom of their words and the courage of their testimony.
The people, who a few days earlier had exalted at the Crucifixion, now open their blinded eyes and cry over their sins, touched to the heart by Peter’s preaching.
Everyone listens to him in his own language and, as in the preaching of Jesus, the deaf hear, the blind see, demons flee, the sick heal, the dead rise.
The Holy Spirit accompanies the Church on its journey repeating the wonders of the origins, but it must find open hearts in the fervor of prayer, so that the wonders of Pentecost are repeated today too.
May the Church, in these moments of darkness, experience a new Pentecost, so that minds are enlightened, hearts inflamed, forces reinvigorated.
May the Holy Spirit raise up new apostles, great souls full of zeal, wisdom and fortitude who, without fearing the powers of evil, face them head on.
May the Virgin Mary take them under her protection, shape them in her image, guide them in battle, support them in tribulations, lead them to victory.

From the Gospel according to John
Jn 15,26-27; 16,12-15
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:
«When the Paraclete comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me; and you also bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.
I still have many things to tell you, but for the moment you are not capable of carrying the burden. When he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own, but he will speak everything that he hears, and he will declare to you the things to come. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father possesses is mine; this is why I said that he will take from what is mine and announce it to you.”
