ST. FAUSTINA ASKED THE SOULS IN PURGATORY WHAT THEIR MOST DIFFICULT TORMENT WAS: ‘THEY ONLY ANSWERED ONE THING’

Saint Faustina Kowalska was one of the greatest mystics of the 20th century. In Poland in the 1920s and 30s, she experienced many supernatural visions of Jesus and various saints and, among other things, was given the Revelation about God’s mercy.

During one of her mystical experiences, she had a vision of Purgatory and saw someone you might not have expected.ADVERTISING

“My guardian angel … commanded me to follow him,” she wrote in mid-1926. They prayed earnestly, but in vain, for themselves; only we can come to their aid.”

She spoke to the souls in Purgatory: “I asked these souls what their greatest suffering was. They answered me in one voice that their greatest torment is the longing for God.”

Then she saw someone you probably wouldn’t expect: “I saw Our Lady visiting souls in purgatory. Souls call her ‘Star of the Sea’. She brings them refreshment.”

Warning from the Diary

“I saw my guardian angel, who ordered me to follow him. In an instant I found myself in a misty place full of fire, in which was a great crowd of suffering souls. They prayed earnestly, but in vain, for themselves; only we can come to their aid.

The flame that burned them didn’t touch me at all. My guardian angel never left me. I asked these souls what their greatest suffering was. They answered me in one voice that their biggest pain is longing for God.

“I saw Our Lady visiting souls in purgatory. Souls call her ‘Star of the Sea’.

She brings them refreshment. I wanted to talk to them some more, but my guardian angel waved me away. We have come out of that prison of suffering. I heard an inner voice, which said: ‘My grace does not want it, but justice demands it.
Since then I have been in closer communion with suffering souls.'” (Diary: Divine mercy in my soul, 20.)
