The Secrets of Medjugorje: Is the Great Chastisement Upon Us?
The Secrets of Medjugorje: Is the Great Chastisement Upon Us?
By Stephen K. Ryan
As the 14-point peace proposal regarding the Iran conflict hangs by a thread this May, the world feels as though it is holding its breath. For decades, skeptics have dismissed the reported apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Medjugorje as a pious distraction. But as the “regional proxy wars” involving the U.S., Israel, Russia, and Iran threaten to coalesce into a singular, global conflagration, the Queen of Peace’s warnings are moving from the realm of “speculation” to the front pages of our newspapers.
The Ten Secrets and the “Time of Trial”
The visionaries of Medjugorje have long maintained that they were entrusted with ten secrets that would affect the entire world. Unlike the single secret of Fatima, these are said to be sequential, imminent, and—in the case of the later secrets—harrowing.
The current geopolitical alignment—Russia’s “Holy War” rhetoric, the nuclear brinkmanship in the Strait of Hormuz, and the “no war, no peace” state in the Middle East—echoes the “shaking of the nations” that the visionaries have described. We are told that the first three secrets are warnings intended to awaken the world. If we look at the unprecedented ecological and military “scandals” of 2026, one has to ask: Is the first secret already unfolding?
Russia, Iran, and the “Miracle” in the Crossfire
In her messages, the Gospa (Our Lady) has often emphasized that “by prayer and fasting, even wars can be stopped.” Yet, she has also mirrored the Fatima warning regarding Russia. Today, as Russia’s influence stretches from the borders of Ukraine to the military command centers in Tehran, we see the “errors” Mary spoke of manifesting as a global rejection of the Prince of Peace.
The “Prophecy of the Sign”—the third secret involving a permanent, indestructible sign on Apparition Hill—is said to occur when the world is on the brink of despair. As we watch the humanitarian toll in Lebanon and the “desecration” of holy sites reported by Pope Leo XIV, the longing for a divine sign has never been more acute among the faithful.
The “Chastisement” vs. The “Culture of Peace”
Catholic eschatology (the study of the end times) is not meant to incite fear, but conversion. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (675) reminds us that the Church must pass through a “final trial.”
Is the war with Iran the spark? The Medjugorje messages suggest that the “Chastisement” (the later secrets) can be mitigated but perhaps not entirely averted due to the hardness of the human heart. When we see the “unarmed and disarming” peace of the Gospel being mocked by world leaders, the prophetic “time of choice” seems to have arrived.
Living in the “Time of Grace”
Whether these events lead to the immediate fulfillment of the Ten Secrets or represent another “labor pain” in a long history of conflict, the remedy remains the same. The Gospa’s “five stones” to defeat the Goliaths of our age—the Rosary, the Eucharist, Holy Scripture, Fasting, and Monthly Confession—are our only true defense.
As I explore the “potomac miracles” and unexplained phenomena in my own investigative work, I am continually reminded that the most profound miracles aren’t found in the halls of power in D.C. or Moscow. They are found in the “Little Way” of the heart. The ceasefire may fail, and the 14 points may be rejected, but the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart is a historical certainty.
