“These apparitions here in Medjugorje are the last for humanity” – Fr. Livio’s Prophetic Words

Afterwards I will no longer appear on earth: these are my last apparitions” (02 – 05 – 1982). The meaning of the words appears clear and cannot be misunderstood. Our Lady could not have expressed herself in a more explicit way. When she wants to make herself understood, she does it without misunderstandings and without leaving any loose ends.”
Dear friends, at regular intervals, I tell you on the Blog the story of the apparitions of Our Lady in Medjugorje, as I have experienced it from the very early years until today.
30. “These apparitions here in Medjugorje are the last for humanity. Hurry to convert” (17 – 04 – 1982).
The first time I heard about the apparitions of Our Lady in Medjugorje was in 1982. I still regret having waited until 1985 to make my first pilgrimage. Although news of apparitions of the Madonna in some part of the world are not unusual, I had a feeling that it was an absolutely exceptional event. It was an intuition of the heart rather than the conclusion of reasoning.
Many years later I can say that it was a call, as also attested by the experience of numerous people who feel personally consulted by the Gospa. The immediate point of interest was the location of the apparition, a village in a country then under the control of an avowedly atheist and materialist regime. How could we not think of Our Lady’s promise in Fatima, which had prophesied Russia’s nefarious hegemony in the world, but also her conversion and the triumph of her Immaculate Heart?
From the beginning I was not interested in Medjugorje for devotional reasons, but for the feeling that it was a divine intervention with incalculable consequences for the history of humanity. In a world that was divided into two blocks, which faced each other with increasingly destructive weapons, only an intervention from Heaven could open a glimmer of the future.
The long presence of the Queen of Peace in Medjugorje cannot be understood if we do not place it on the trajectory of the prophecy of Fatima, which lights the light of hope in a world of peace, after the unleashing of the powers of darkness. The great battle underway is one of the most acute phases of the eschatological combat that has taken place on earth ever since the rebel angels fell into it. At stake is the eternal salvation of numerous souls and the very future of mankind.
The epochal character of the apparitions was evident from the beginning. After a few weeks it was already evident that the event was far-reaching and that it broke the mold of previous Marian apparitions in modern times. The Madonna ranged beyond the limited horizons of the region. Her intention from the beginning was to “convert the greatest number of people and restore peace to those who have lost it” (15 September 1981).
How much longer will he have to stay with us to realize this plan? As in Fatima, the Mother of God names the nations that are dear to her heart. Her gaze rests on the events of the entire world. “There will soon be conflicts in Poland, but in the end the righteous will prevail. The Russian people are the people in whom God will be most glorified. The West has increased progress, but without God, as if he were not the Creator” (30 – 10 – 1981).
The universal character of the Medjugorje apparitions is already evident from the first steps of this unimaginable journey. Everything that has manifested itself in these decades was already present in the first months in the words and choices of the Gospa. Even the secrets were almost all given in the first two years. The plan of the Mother of God concerned the Church and the entire world from the first days. We did not understand it immediately, because it was a seed hidden under the ground.
However, now that we are able to read the past in the light of the present, we realize the historical significance of Mary’s presence and its decisive importance for the future of humanity. We are going through a critical passage in the history of salvation. It is a new passage of the Red Sea, towards the promised land. Mary, by the will of the Almighty, is the Moses of our generation.
In this light we must understand the statements of the Madonna, made already in the first year of the apparitions, which underline their unique and definitive character. They are a short distance from each other, as if the Gospa wanted to reiterate the concept: “These apparitions here in Medjugorje are the last for humanity. Hurry to convert” (17 – 04 – 1982). “ I have come to call the world to conversion for the last time. Afterwards I will no longer appear on earth: these are my last apparitions” (02 – 05 – 1982).
The meaning of the words appears clear and cannot be misunderstood. Our Lady could not have expressed herself in a more explicit way. When she wants to make herself understood, she does it without misunderstandings and without leaving any loose ends. In any case, what counts is the message and not the interpretation that, on a personal basis, a seer can give. The visionaries are not privileged interpreters of the messages, but they too, like each of us, must try to understand them in the light of the Holy Spirit.
Ultimately it is the Church which, if it deems it so, gives the interpretation. The secret of Fatima itself demonstrates the complexity of an understanding that necessarily progresses over time. However, Gospa’s statements do not lend themselves to misunderstanding.
First of all, she is keen to specify that she is talking about the apparitions that take place in Medjugorje. These are “the last for humanity”. “Afterwards I will no longer appear on earth: these are my last apparitions.” The Queen of Peace also refers to the purpose of these apparitions and is the call to conversion: “Hurry to convert”, “I have come to call the world to conversion for the last time”.
It does not appear that the Madonna, in apparitions approved by the Church, expressed herself in such definitive terms. It is the first time that Our Lady states that she will no longer appear on earth. The visionaries believe that the Gospa does not intend to exclude for the future any other apparition of a private nature, made to individual people, but only those addressed to the whole world, to call it to conversion. Their interpretation is sustainable, but in the end what matters is what Our Lady said and the extraordinary significance of her words, which will be clearer to subsequent generations.
In fact, there is no doubt that, with this revelation, the Queen of Peace wants us to understand that we are at a turning point in the history of salvation. “I have come to call the world to conversion for the last time.” What characterizes the current phase, so much so that Our Lady says that this is her last intervention on earth? She herself indicates this when she states that “Satan is loosed from his chains” (01 – 01 – 2001).
We are going through a passage in the history of salvation characterized by the construction of a new world without God. The devil has unleashed an attack on Christ and the Church in the West, with the intention of putting himself in God’s place. Rebellion and disbelief has conquered hearts like never before, enveloping the entire world in the darkness of lies and death. The result is the harvest that Satan reaps (“A great number of men go to hell” (02 – 11 – 1983).
Blinded men ignore this terrible danger, aided by unfaithful ministers, who claim that everyone is saved and that hell is empty. Yet they can see the sword of Damocles hanging over the head of humanity, even if they do everything to remove it from their eyes. In fact, who does not see the extreme fragility of the present, the uncertainty of the future and the possibility that men will transform the earth “into a heap of ruins”, as John Paul II warned?
Our Lady is aware of the reality of things. She knows the present and the future, which escape us. She knows well where the road leads that humanity, deceived by Satan, is following without being able to stop. I realized that, to understand the situation in the world, there is nothing that can be compared to the words of the Queen of Peace.
The extreme danger that countless souls run and the looming threat of self-destruction give reason for the heartfelt appeal for conversion. Our Lady makes Jesus’ warning resonate in every corner of the earth: “If you do not convert, you will all perish” (Lk 13.5).
The fact that this is Mary’s last call should not necessarily be understood in a negative light. On the contrary, she herself, by thanking us because we have responded to her invitation, anticipates the positive outcome of her long stay among us. In fact, the prospect is her victory. Our Lady appeared on the mountain with the Queen’s regal crown. She took the field against the dragon to reaffirm the victory that was achieved by the glorious cross of Jesus Christ.
The final outcome of this dramatic battle, which involves our generation, is “the new world of peace”. The Virgin, powerful against evil since the first months of the apparitions, reveals the immense scope of the eschatological battle underway. To Satan’s attack, the largest and most impressive in Christian history, the sacrificed Lamb responded by sending the Mother
The battle rages every day in hearts, in the Church and in the world. When everything seems lost, the glorious Woman of the Apocalypse will manifest her invincible power. At the end of history, at the last unleashing of evil, Jesus himself will respond, coming on the clouds of heaven as judge of the world.
