The unexplainable love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Today’s feast, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, is for us a magnificent occasion to appreciate, with more humility in truth, the unexplainable love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Can we really explain this love?

This love, divinely human, pours itself to those who need it most. St Margaret Mary Alacoque says: The Sacred Heart of Christ is an inexhaustible fountain and its sole desire is to pour itself out into the hearts of the humble so as to free them and prepare them to lead lives according to his good pleasure.

Jesus’ unexplainable love wants to be loved by people to show them the way of salvation. In the Revelations of Our Lord to St Mary Alacoque we find: And He [Christ] showed me that it was His great desire of being loved by men and of withdrawing them from the path of ruin that made Him form the design of manifesting His Heart to men, with all the treasures of love, of mercy, of grace, of sanctification and salvation which it contains, in order that those who desire to render Him and procure Him all the honour and love possible, might themselves be abundantly enriched with those divine treasures of which His heart is the source.

Moreover, Jesus’ unfathomable love for us humanity is a strong motive for us to rejoice. St Bernardette Soubirous says: Love overcomes, love delights, those who love the Sacred Heart rejoice.

The incomprehensible love of Jesus’ Heart is a vibrant furnace of Love. St Gertrude the Great says: O Sacred Heart of Jesus, fountain of eternal life, Your Heart is a glowing furnace of Love. You are my refuge and my sanctuary.

The inscrutable love of Jesus’ Heart is a blessing, humility and mercy. Hence, St Margaret Alacoque says: This divine heart is an abyss filled with all blessings, and into the poor should submerge all their needs. It is an abyss of joy in which all of us can immerse our sorrows. It is an abyss of lowliness to counteract our foolishness, an abyss of mercy for the wretched, an abyss of love to meet our every need.

The wonderful love of Jesus’ heart translates itself in its self-giving for me, a sinner. St Therese of Lisieux says: Dear Lord! To win my heart, from heaven Thou didst come; for me Thy blood didst shed, O King adored! and on our altars makest Thy home. So, if I may not here behold Thy Face, or catch the heavenly music of Thy Voice, I still can live, each moment, by Thy grace, and in Thy Sacred Heart I can rest.

Furthermore, this divinely generous love paid itself the price of its love for those it redeemed. St Margaret Mary Alacoque says: Our Lord Jesus Christ desires that we should, for sanctifying ourselves, glorify His all-loving Heart; for it was His Heart that suffered the most in His Sacred Humanity.

The Sacred heart of Jesus is an excellent place to worship God in spirit and truth. St Margaret Mary Alacoque says: Choose the divine Heart for your sacred oratory, wherein to offer to God your petitions and prayers that may be pleasing to Him.

The Sacred Heart of Jesus is the sole author for peace in society, Church and in one’s soul. St Josmaria Escriva tells us: I came to cast fire upon the earth; and would that it were already kindled. (Luke 12:29) We have approached the fire of the love of God. Let us allow that fire to burn our lives. Let us feed the desire to spread that divine fire throughout the world, making t known to all the people around us. They too can experience the peace of Christ and find happiness there. A Christian who lives united to Christ’s heart can have no goals but these: peace in society, peace in the Church, peace in his soul, the peace of God which will reach its climax when his kingdom comes.

Lord, you deserve all honor and praise,
because your love is perfect and your heart sublime.
My heart is filled to overflowing with gratitude
for the many blessings and graces you have bestowed upon me and those
whom I love.
Forever undeserving, may I always be attentive
and never take for granted the gifts of mercy and love
that flow so freely and generously from your Sacred Heart.
Heart of Jesus, I adore you.
Heart of Jesus, I praise you.
Heart of Jesus, I thank you.
Heart of Jesus, I love you forever and always.
Amen.
