Is it a Sin to Receive the Eucharist in the Hand? w/ Fr. Mark Goring
Some Catholics believe that it is a sin to take communion in the hand because they believe that it is disrespectful to the Eucharist. They believe that the Eucharist is the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ, and that it should be treated with reverence.
They also believe that taking communion in the hand increases the risk of desecration of the Eucharist. They point to the fact that there have been many cases of people dropping the Eucharist, or even stealing it, when they have taken it in the hand.
Finally, some Catholics believe that taking communion in the hand is a sign of irreverence towards the Eucharist. They believe that it is more respectful to receive the Eucharist on the tongue, kneeling down, and with outstretched hands.
The Catholic Church teaches that it is not a sin to take communion in the hand. The Church teaches that both ways of receiving communion are valid and respectful. However, the Church also teaches that it is up to each individual Catholic to decide how they wish to receive communion.
Here are some of the reasons why some Catholics believe that it is a sin to take communion in the hand:
- They believe that it is disrespectful to the Eucharist.
- They believe that it increases the risk of desecration of the Eucharist.
- They believe that it is a sign of irreverence towards the Eucharist.
It is important to note that the Catholic Church does not teach that it is a sin to take communion in the hand. Both ways of receiving communion are valid and respectful.
