Today’s Gospel March 2019 First week of Lent “Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world”
“Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world”
I Week of Lent – Week of the Psalter – Year C
From the Gospel according to Matthew 25: 31-46
At that time, Jesus told his disciples: “When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on the throne of his glory. All peoples will be gathered before him. He will separate one from the other, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and will place the sheep on his right and the goats on the left.
Then the king will say to those on his right: “Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world, because I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and I you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you dressed me, sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to see me “.
Then the righteous will answer him: “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink?” When did we ever see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and dress you? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and come to visit you? ” And the king will answer them: “Truly I say to you, all you have done to one of these my little brothers, you did it to me.”
Then he will also say to those on the left: “Come, far from me, damn you, into the eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels, because I was hungry and you did not give me food, I was thirsty and not you gave me to drink, I was a stranger and you didn’t welcome me, naked and you didn’t dress me, sick and in prison and you didn’t visit me. “
They too will then reply: “Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did we not serve you?” Then he will answer them: “Truly, I say to you, all that you did not do to one of these little ones, you did not do it to me.” And they will go: these to the eternal torture, the just ones instead to the eternal life “.
WORD OF THE LORD
Pope Francis’ comment of 26 November 2017
“Jesus will come at the end of time to judge all nations, but he comes to us every day, in many ways, and asks us to welcome him. May the Virgin Mary help us to meet him and receive him in his Word and in the Eucharist, and at the same time in the brothers and sisters who suffer hunger, sickness, oppression, injustice. May our hearts welcome him in the today of our lives, because we are welcomed by him in the eternity of his Kingdom of light and peace “.
