Papal Envoy to Medjugorje, Archbishop Hoser, has made headlines around the world with his remarks that he feels Medjugorje will be “approved” by the Vatican this year.
Archbishop Hoser added, “this movement will not stop and should not be stopped, because of the good fruit that grows out of it. It is one of the most lively places of prayer and conversion in Europe – and has a healthy spirituality.”
The important point is Archbishop Hoser was personally selected by Pope Francis to be the Vatican’s special Envoy to Medjugorje. This critical point – that the Archbishop speaks for the Vatican and the Pope, is all but ignored by Main Stream Catholic press.
A Vatican official making positive statements about Medjugorje does not fit Catholic media’s narrative so instead of attributing the positive news to a “Papal Envoy” or an official of the Vatican, they water down the headline by attributing the news to a “Polish Archbishop”. One can almost sense a whiff of anti-polish bigotry attached to the headlines. Come on Catholic media please report Medjugorje news honestly. It’s the “Papal Envoy” saying positive words about Medjugorje – not a “Polish Archbishop” (see headlines below)
Now imagine for a moment if Archbishop Hoser had said negative things about Medjugorje – You can bet your last dollar the headlines would have screamed that the Vatican has spoken authoritatively.
American Catholic media simply cannot accept the fact that Rome and the Holy See are moving forward with recognition of Medjugorje as an important Catholic Shrine and that the early apparitions were investigated thoroughly and determined to be authentic.
