Russian foreign minister warns of WW3 – ‘do not underestimate threat of nuclear war’
NATO is already effectively at war with Russia, warns Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, adding that there was a ‘real danger’ the conflict could trigger a third world war
There is a “real danger” that a World War 3 could break out over Ukraine, warned Russia ’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, claiming that deliveries of western weaponry to Ukraine meant NATO was “in essence engaged in war with Russia”.
He added that the threat of a nuclear conflict was “serious… real,” adding that “we must not underestimate it.
Speaking on Russian state television said that by arming Ukraine, NATO countries were already effectively fighting against Russia.
He warned that any weapons shipments coming from the west are immediately regarded as “legitimate targets” saying that several NATO arms shipments had already been destroyed by Russian attacks.
“How can it be otherwise?”, he said: “NATO, in essence, is engaged in a war with Russia through a proxy and is arming that proxy. War means war.”
Lavrov did also say that he thought there was a good chance that the war could be ended by a peace treaty but was critical of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy, saying he was only “pretending” to negotiate and describing him as a “good actor” when it came to diplomacy.

He hinted that Russia might be willing to settle for the Ukrainian territory it had already captured, saying that the terms of any peace agreement “be defined by the state of the fighting that will have taken place at the moment the accord becomes reality”.
But Ukrainian negotiators said finding a way to make peace was becoming “more challenging” as more evidence of mass rape and murder by Russian troops emerged.
