Our Lady of Akita’s Final Warning
Sister Agnes Sasagawa, a member of the Institute of the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist in Akita, Japan, died on August 15, the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, at the age of 93.
On October 13, 1973, Sister Agnes received a message from our Lady. She said,
If men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the deluge [the Great Flood] such as one will never have seen before. Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead. The only arms which will remain for you will be the Rosary and the sign left by my son. Each day recite the prayers of the Rosary. With the Rosary, pray for the Pope, the bishops and the priests.
On May 1, 1976, the first Saturday of the month, an angel told Sister Agnes, “Attach great importance to this day for the glory of God and of his Holy Mother. With courage spread this devotion (the Fatima First Saturday Devotion) among the greatest number.”
On December 10, 1925, in Pontevedra, Spain, Our Lady of Fatima appeared to the visionary Sister Lucia. She requested the practice of the First Saturday Devotion that consists of doing the following with the intention of making reparation for the offenses to her Immaculate Heart: Receive the sacrament of Confession within 8 days before or after the First Saturday of each month and on that day receive the Eucharist; pray five decades of the Rosary; and keep Our Lady company for 15 minutes while meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary.
46 years later, on October 6, 2019, at 3:30 A.M., Sister Agnes received a new warning message at Akita from an angel. The message was similar to the prophet Jonah’s message of warning to the idol worshiping Ninevites to repent or be destroyed. Jonah’s message was, “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown.” (Jonah 3:4).
“The Ninevites believed God. A fast was proclaimed, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.” (Jonah 3:5). When the King of Nineveh heard about the message he got up from his throne, removed his robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. “When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened.” (Jonah 3:10). May we imitate the good example of the pagan Ninevites who worshiped idols!
Sister Agnes received the new warning message on October 6, 2019, the same day that Pope Francis inaugurated the Amazon Synod where he allowed the display of idols that some people venerated, like the Ninevites did in the past, in St. Peter’s Basilica, St. Santamaria church and in the Vatican gardens. For the full story of idols at the Amazon Synod see my article here.
This was the first public message that Sister Agnes had received in the preceding 48 years. The October 6, 2019 message was personally delivered in the convent of Akita to an American friend of Sister Agnes whom I know. She delivered it in America to another woman whom I know. She delivered it to me and I published it.
Signs and wonders accompanied Sister Agnes’ original message, including the weeping of her statue of Our Lady of Akita 101 times. Scientific examination proved that they were human tears.
In 1992, I was one of the leaders of Dr. Rosalie Turton’s 101 Foundation Peace Pilgrimage, named after the 101 times that the statute wept. We had approximately 1000 pilgrims in two 747 jumbo jets.
I was part of a very small group that privately visited the sick Sister Agnes and I prayed for her at her bedside in her convent.
We also attended a private conference for our pilgrimage at which Bishop Ito, Sister Agnes’s Bishop, told us that he had approved all of her messages. In June 1988, Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger (later Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI), Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, gave a definitive judgment on the Akita events and messages as reliable and worthy of belief.
This is the message that Sister Agnes received on October 6, 2019, “Cover in ashes and please pray the Penitential Rosary every day. You [Sister Agnes] become like a child and every day please give sacrifice.”
The warning was short and to the point, as was the warning to the Ninevites. May we respond to it now as they did!
I believe that the phrase, “Cover in ashes,” is metaphorical and does not mean that God wants us to literally cover ourselves in ashes, as did the Ninevites, but rather it means that we should assume a penitential attitude.
A penitential Rosary is a Rosary that is prayed with contrition and in sorrow for one’s own sins or the sins of others and for their conversion. It is offered in atonement and reparation to our merciful God who is so horribly offended by the sins of the modern world. Let us fervently pray the Rosary daily for the conversion of all people who are lost in sin and have not come to know the love of the one true God.

Catherine Grinn, Former Catholic School Principal said,
“This book is an amazing tool to evangelize our younger generation!
It pulls you in and you want to keep reading it as you are taught how to equip yourself to help bring the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Most importantly, it answers so many questions that people now have. Dan has connected us to the apparitions, messages and secrets of Medjugorje and shows us that they are about us, and for us, and for this time.
My 19-year-old daughter picked up the book and read it. She said, ‘This book is very inspirational! Why don’t the Catholic schools or the priests teach us these things?’”
